Plan parts

The Parts tab lists the pieces required to cut. Enter parts directly, import them from an external source, copy reusable definitions from Materials, or copy parts from Assemblies. These methods can be combined in one plan.

CutLogic 2D panel cutting optimizer - Plan parts tab showing part dimensions, quantities and material requirements

Entering and importing parts

Click Insert (+) on the navigator or press Ins. Enter the required length, width, and quantity. To import a part list from a file or clipboard, use Ctrl+I or Ctrl+J.

Part fields

•# - Automatically assigned number, used for default sorting.

•Length / Width - Part dimensions.

•Net length / Net width - Calculated dimensions to cut, taking into account Part increase and any edge-banding decrements.

•Qty - Required number of parts.

•Can turn - Whether the optimizer may rotate the part by 90 degrees. Disable it when grain, surface pattern, or another orientation requirement must be preserved.

•Uncut - Number of parts not included in the optimized layouts.

•Description, Order #, Note 1-4 - Additional identification, order, and reporting information.

•P-Group - Part-group identifier used by Group optimization to keep each part group within a common stock group.

•Color - Color used to distinguish the part in cutting layout pictures. Click its color field to change it.

•ID - Unique, automatically generated, read-only identifier.

To show, hide, or reorder columns, select View > Rearrange columns.

Copying parts from Materials

If you regularly cut the same parts, define them once under Materials.

Press F4 to open Materials > Parts, mark the parts you want to copy, press F4 again, and enter the Repeat value to multiply the original part quantities by the specified factor.

Copying parts from Assemblies

Assemblies are useful for products and orders that contain several different parts.

Press Ctrl+F4 to open Assemblies > Parts, mark parts you want to copy, then press F4 and choose Copy to current plan.

For details, including creating multiple plans from multi-material assemblies, see Copying assembly parts to plans.

Defining edge banding

Select a part and press F5 if the detail panel is hidden. On the Edges tab, assign a predefined edge banding to each required edge. Colored lines on the part diagram show the assignments.

The four edges can use different edgebands. You can reuse the last selected edgeband or clear an assignment with the controls beside the edges; holding Ctrl while using the appropriate control applies the action to all edges.

Edgeband Decrement values affect the calculated net cutting dimensions. Define the available banding types and their properties in Edgebands. You can also use edgeband definitions to represent edge-related finishing operations, such as grinding.

Splitting long parts

Split parts longer than available stocks if your production process allows shorter pieces to be joined afterward. This is useful, for example, when cutting long plastic film sections from rolls.

Select one or more parts in Plans > Parts, then open Edit > Split part. Enter the target fragment length and choose how to handle a shorter final fragment: leave it unchanged, round it up, or use another specified length. The dialog can also remove fragments created by an earlier splitting operation.

Fragments retain the original part number, so they can be associated with the finished part. The optimizer cuts the fragments; joining them afterward is a separate production step. Use this function only where such joining is acceptable.
